Here's How You Dispose Off Your "Multiple Babies'" Stuff!
Free stuff for multiple birth, twins and multiple births, multiple births facts
Imagine the amount of space you will have to devote to the clothes,
supplies and equipment utilized by your twins or triplets or higher order
multiples! They will not be able to use their stuff for a lifetime; so
once they have outlived their usefulness, the products and items have
to be got rid off. Of course, if you are in a generous mood, you could
just donate everything to someone else or to a needy organization. But
if you are a practical thinker, you will realize that you also require
money to buy the next lot for your growing children!
There are various outlets via which you can sell your gently-used stuff,
but you better keep a few do’s and don’ts in mind before the actual sale—
(1) The person who buys your stuff should feel that he/she is getting
good value for money. It is also a matter of courtesy that we present
used items in a nice way. Where clothing or fabrics are concerned, ensure
that they are cleanly washed and ironed. There should be no stains or
marks or ripped-off buttons. They can be displayed on child-size hangers
to give a better idea of size and condition; looks always matter! As for
toys and plastic surfaces of equipment, wash them well and wipe them cleanly.
(2) Whatever is put up for sale should be marked carefully—price, size,
description.
(3) Your products should not be overpriced, considering that they are
actually second-hand goods. If something is worth $1, no one is going
to buy it for $2 at a thrift store or a sale! And if no one purchases
it, you will have to cart it back home and store it somewhere. Used goods
generally go for one-third or one-half of the original cost, depending
on the state they are in. Of course, if something is brand new, leave
the price tags on and let your customers know about it.
(4) Now, in your hurry to get rid of your baby products and toys, do
not just donate them at throwaway prices if they can go for much more.
Items of good quality can be put up at consignment goods shop or a private
sale. Seek other alternatives too; you do not want your costly stuff or
heirlooms to be undervalued.
Once your items for sale are readied and labeled, they can be taken to
a local multiples club sale (you are bound to have one in your area).
You will not have to spend much in setting up your stall or booth, but
you are bound to rake in the profits! Some clubs ask for volunteer sellers
or expect a small fee to be paid. Before you start your sale, be very
clear about how the club plans to distribute the profits and how many
days later you will receive your money. These are events held semi-annually
or annually, drawing large crowds every time. It may surprise you to see
how many parents of newborns prefer to buy second-hand stuff! In the case
that some of your items are left over at the end of the day and you do
not want them, the club will take care of their donation or disposal.
If you are an enterprising person, you might wish to organize your own
yard sale or garage sale. True, some time and effort will be required
to set it up, but the results should be well worth them! You can even
enlist the help of neighbors or other community members to come up with
a combined community
yard sale.
Consignment stores
are great outlets for getting rid of costly products. The shop owners
will retain a portion of the profits (they are selling the stuff on your
behalf), but you will still get good prices for your fancy baby clothing
or expensive baby equipment. Now, different stores follow different policies—so
check them out. There are a few shops that will choose only those products
that will readily sell; they reject others. Some will pay upfront as soon
as you hand over your goods, but the general trend is to shell out the
profits only after they come in. Yet others leave the products on their
shelves and dispose of them as and when the customers ask for them. In
the case that you want some unsold merchandise to be returned to you,
make a deal with the shop owner beforehand.
You would want to get good returns on highly expensive products. These
can be disposed off via person-to-person transactions. Again, you can
place advertisements in the classified sections of local newspapers or
community swap sheets. Quite a few community centers display bulletin
boards at their meeting halls. There are also certain places where you
find parents getting together or there is a high flow of traffic; put
up display cards or prominent flyers.
The above-mentioned suggestions should prove more than sufficient to
help you dispose off your used goods.
